“The Legal Status of Animals: Working Towards Change” (English)
Biography: Angela Fernandez is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto where she is cross-appointed to the Department of History. She did her B.A. in philosophy at McGill, as well as her law degrees, an LL.B. (common law) and B.C.L. (civil law degree) in what was then called the National Programme. Her graduate degrees are from Queen’s University (an M.A. in philosophy) and the Yale Law School, an LL.M. (Master’s in Law) and a J.S.D. (Doctorate in law). In addition to teaching animal law, Professor Fernandez is a member of the Brooks Institute for Animal Rights, Law & Policy collaborative research network BASAN (Brooks Animal Studies Academic Network). She is also on the Board of Advisors and is a Director of Animal Justice Canada.

Biographie: François Jaquet détient un doctorat en philosophie de l’Université de Genève. Il est actuellement maître de conférences en éthique et coresponsable du Master Éthique de l’Université de Strasbourg. Ses travaux s’inscrivent principalement en métaéthique et en éthique animale. Dans le premier domaine, il s’intéresse aux implications normatives de la théorie de l’erreur morale, selon laquelle tous les jugements moraux sont faux. Dans le second domaine, ses recherches portent sur la psychologie et l’épistémologie des croyances et intuitions spécistes. Il est l’auteur de nombreux articles publiés dans des revues spécialisées ainsi que d’un ouvrage, Qui peut sauver la morale ? Essai de métaéthique, co-écrit avec Hichem Naar. “The Ecological Constitution” (English)
Biography: Lynda Collins is a Full Professor in the Centre for Environmental Law & Global Sustainability at the University of Ottawa Faculty Law. Professor Collins is an expert in environmental human rights at the domestic and international levels including constitutional environmental rights, Indigenous environmental rights, rights of nature, and environmental rights in private law. She is the author of The Ecological Constitution. Professor Collins has advised multiple national and international organizations including the United Nations Association in Canada, the European Parliament, and Friends of the Earth. She has similarly participated in expert gatherings and participatory processes with the United Nations Human Rights Council, the United Nations Environment Program, and the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and the Environment. She co-Chaired Ontario’s Toxic Reduction Scientific Expert Panel by Ministerial appointment. Along with Heather McLeod-Kilmurray, is co-author of The Canadian Law of Toxic Torts.
